I find this question being asked quite regularly, especially by those who may be new to the network marketing business. Some people are incredibly keen to succeed with MLM, but they are fearful about making the initial contact…especially with friends or family members.  There is a simple and clear explanation for this.

The reason that you fear making that first initial contact is because you are fearful of being a sales person and pushing to get the sale.  I used to be the exact same way — I also used to be fearful.  Can I tell you, though, that I did not overcome my fear? Because if I thought for one moment that I’ve got to go up and talk to somebody and sell them on something, I would be fearful still.

When you approach people, think of yourself as the one person who can help them, but the only way you can do that is by focusing on them and not on your MLM business.  And, the way you focus on them is by finding out what their needs, wants, and don’t-wants are. So, what I’m suggesting to you is just focus on finding out what it is that would help them.

So, what’s my process for approaching people?

If you have a person standing in front of you, you don’t know if they need or want your product or your business, so you have basically two choices:

Option one would be to ask them if they would be interested in hearing about something. I may be totally wrong here (I doubt it) but the overwhelming chances are that, most of the time, you are going to get a resounding “No, I am not interested.” You and I both know that‘s the likely outcome which is exactly what leads us to be fearful of making the initial contact.

Option two is to ask questions about the prospect, and their interests, and be a problem solver to whatever comes up on the subject that is directly related to your business or products.  In my opinion, based upon successful experience, being a problem solver is always a better approach than soliciting for business.

Just communicate with someone, just greet them. Be genuinely interested in them with no hidden agenda about selling them anything gnawing at you. Yes, and as your conversation unfolds, you may discover that they do qualify and may well be interested in your products or your network marketing business.

Hopefully you will see that approaching people this way is more natural (it certainly is to me) and because you have shown a genuine interest in them, you are far more likely to get to the point where you can invite them to look at your product or your MLM business.

If I focus on greeting someone, I’m never fearful about walking up to anyone.   If I’m focused on selling, I’m always fearful.  That’s the difference.

Much respect and admiration,

Tim Sales

I’d like you to forget for a second that you’re in Network Marketing. What if you were starting any other kind of business like a retail store, a salon, or a construction company.  Where would you get your customers? Your employees? How about business partners? Where would you find them?

In one or more of those categories a friend, acquaintance or family member might be the right fit, maybe not. Maybe they know someone who would be the right fit. Somehow it always works itself back to an acquaintance, a recommendation or a referral.   In MLM, we called this your “warm market.”

Your warm market can be one of the greatest resources to your business.  And dealing with family and friends can be a blessing or a curse, but if you want your family and friends to continue to respect you, give you referrals, be your customer, and possibly say “yes” to your opportunity, I recommend you follow these five simple tips this holiday season when faced head on with your warm market.

Rule #1 Hold your tongue. Don’t ever insult someone for his or her decision not to participate with you in your business. Don’t tell someone they’re stupid for not doing business with you, even if it is “the way you talk to your brother.” It’s unprofessional and out of place.

Rule #2 Be wise. “No” rarely means no. That same brother in three weeks or three years could lose his job. If you’ve made a fool out of yourself, not only will he not do the business, he will beat you to all of your friends and tell them about the “scam” you’re in. All of this because “you told him” how stupid he was. That’s not wise.

Rule #3
Deal with it. For over 10 years I’ve dealt with objections, concerns, past failures, bad experiences, and more – all of which have all taught me how to successfully handle these issues.

Just as an experienced dentist knows that treating teeth is the easy part and the hard part is dealing with the patient’s “baggage” – like the time the “other” dentist stuck a six-foot needle in their gum when they were 14 years old. “Dealing” with these issues is what “wins” the patient. Once the trust is established you’ve got them for life or until you decide to stop servicing their needs.

Rule #4 Yes or No. Some prospects take just one conversation to be won over and some prospects take 10 conversations. (Nine of those conversations resulted in a “No” answer even though “No” was never stated.) If you take the thought process as being that either the prospect says “Yes” or “No,” then you’ll miss the art of communication and networking.

Suppose your company has 20 products. If your prospect says “No,” find out what they are saying “No” to. Are they saying “No” to all 20 products? Are they saying “No” to “I don’t want to diversify my income?” No to ”I don’t know anyone who needs or wants any of your 20 products?” That’s a lot to say “No” to. I recommend that you find out exactly what your prospects are truly saying “No” to.

Rule #5 Don’t be a bug. Do not ever “bug” family and friends about your company. Sometimes Networkers get extremely focused, which is good, and it should never be suppressed. Focus is what creates “eliteness.” Just be disciplined as to what and who deserves that focus. If it’s a friend or family member who clearly isn’t interested, quit wasting time there and go get in front of people who do want to be a part of your business or a product consumer.

Your warm market is an important part of your business. Abuse it and pretty soon you’ll notice they don’t return your phone calls anymore. Keep these five rules in mind when you’re at holiday gatherings this year and you will see that you can have a successful business and keep the respect of your family and friends.

And there you have it – five rules to follow when working with your friends and family.

Paying Your Dues in MLM

by limitlesslaura

I can’t tell you how many times I have seen great people give up after very weak attempts at their business. If people really knew what it took, I mean REALLY, perhaps they would think twice! I am going to be brutally frank here, and might even risk ruffling some feathers. We have been at this a very, very long time. We have seen people come, and we have seen people go. We have participated in the success of people who have gone from nothing to  multiple six figure income earners, and there is nothing more rewarding than to watch that kind of growth. Sticking with it and building an income in mlm can be a truly rewarding experience.

On the flip side, we have seen struggle, and that is painful to watch when you care for people. No matter how you slice it, as Jim Rohn used to say “Everyone has to pay their $10 at the door”, no exceptions. What’s interesting is that some people accept it, hunker down, with a do-whatever-it-takes attitude. Others have a “try it” attitude. You know the ones, who come to you and say “I tried it, and it just didn’t work for me”. There is a large percentage of people who are somewhere in the middle. They are willing to do whatever it takes, as long as it is on their terms.

When folks come to us and say “it”s just not working”..I always ask them “How many people have you talked to this week?” The hard cold facts are always the facts. They are sobering, but nonetheless, the reason, the bottomline most of the time as to why business is slow. Another Jim Rohn ism is…”The more people you talk to, the more decisions you will collect, and some of them can’t help but be yes if you are talking to enough people”.

WHY do people talk to so few people? THAT is the bigger question!!  The article below will enlighten you. Mark Yarnell is one of the founding fathers in our great industry. He has had a huge career, and written some of the greatest textbooks for network marketing how-to in existence, like Your First Year In Network Marketing, and one of the first I ever wore-out back in the 90’s.

Halleluyah! Summer is over and it was a good one.  We had a blast. But alas, a few more minds will be focused on working and school.

I got to thinking today about how grateful I am for the incredible lifestyle we enjoy as a result of network marketing. We are fortunate to enjoy time freedom, with the ability to make our own hours. When it comes to family this can be a good thing and a bad thing. Because our time is our own, it’s easy to get caught up in working constantly, especially when you are as passionate about what you do as we are! Lesson learned this summer:

After savoring the end of Summer, it’s time to dive into Fall! This is my favorite time of year, both in our business and in my life! I love the change in the weather, the colors of the leaves, (in Salt Lake City they are spectacular!) and the change in the air. as far as business, people turn their FOCUS to money, business, school, the upcoming holidays, and the year ending.

September, October, and November are historically the three BIGGEST MONTHS in MLM.This is also Convention season, when all the MLM Companies hold their yearly Conferences, and associates from around the country fly into one city to meet together in the thousands to ROCK THE HOUSE. We meet, me mingle, we learn. You have an amazing opportunity to make priceless connections with people to advance your business. Nowhere else can you learn in the way you can as a LIVE event.   [click to continue…]

Strategically watching your market is a very important part of what we do. I just happened to be cruising by MLM today for some information. It got me thinking about what you need to look for in a company.

There is a common thread I noticed on this list that I want to show you however.  What is the common thread?? They are all unique – different products (for the most part). This tells us that our market is looking for A CHANGE!

We like to use this Acronym D.S.A

Is your product something unique? Patent protected? Are there 25 other similar types of the same thing, or when people hear about your product, do you have to explain yourself and say “Yes it’s a juice, BUT…. ”  Are you going to see it in Costco in a couple of years?  If you have a solid, unique product, you can stand out from the hundreds and hundreds of other network marketing products/opportunities all competing for your customer/new distributor!

Is your product something that people fall in love with and when they do, they can’t live without it? Is it something that in tough times, people will still buy it because of the impact it makes on their life? it’s no secret that the economy is down. To sustain your autoship income, people must be absolutely 125% SOLD on your product, and be so sure they have to have it that they will stay on autoship no matter what. So, you have to have a product that is that good! The worst thing in the world is having to continually keep “plugging the leaking bucket”. This means that you would have to keep sponsoring people as fast as they are dropping off their autoship. That is NO FUN. That is a job! Always ask “What is your retention rate?”

Does your company/product/opportunity give you a distinct advantage in the marketplace?  How far out in front are you? Are you a category creator? What kind of management does the company have? Probably the single BIGGEST issue (THE FOUNDERS) Have they run multi billion dollar companies AND consistently sustained the growth? What are the PRINCIPLES AND VALUES of the company Leadership? What about Strategic Training for the associates?

Put these three elements together and evaluate any opportunity. It’s a good measuring stick. Think about your 3-5 year plan and if your company has the structure and components to take you where you want to go in that time frame.

Something To Think About!

PS. I  was gleeful when I saw that BOTH the opportunities that pay us our full time income, are on the TOP 10 LIST FOR “Top Gainers Last 30 Days“.  Go there and look for your company!

If you are ATHLETIC or at all open to finding out why ASEA is #2 on the list..have a peek.

As for #10 Enagic (Kangen water™), Find out why we receive More Checks Than Bills into our mailbox, all month long. There’s a reason these two companies are growing steadily in the slowest mlm month of the year.OK…enough with the shameless promotions for a while!!

It’s easy to forget the most important concepts under stress, when you’re busy building a business and attending webinars, soaking up education. I had forgotten a very critical principal this week.  Your MLM “PhD” is A Continuing Education Worth Millions because you are always learning something new to make yourself more valuable to your readers, your down line, your sales force, your students, your family and yourself . There is no amount of time or money that should not be sacrificed to make you as valuable as you can possibly be! Here’s why:

  • When you invest in yourself you are adding to your personal library of knowledge that will be with you forever. Nobody can take away what you know. You can take it anywhere, do anything with it. I have seen the libraries of Multi-Million dollar earners, and I can tell you they are vast. Heck our library is vast! A top money earner is always reinvesting a good portion of his or her income back into more knowledge!
  • You become extremely attractive with the more education you participate in. Sharing value with our readers is the name of the game!! If you don’t have anything valuable to bring to the table, well, your blog will not be interesting or engaging, and it won’t attract readers. Giving value is what makes you stand out, makes you a trusted advisor, liked as an individual, and perceived as a leader. The more tips, ideas, training, and help you can share with your readers or followers, the more you will find them “coming back for more”! [click to continue…]

Warning: This is a “Think Outside The Box Concept” !! But if you stick with me..I promise you will dig it.Stay tuned guys, because in this article I am going to show you why  Blogging Other People’s Popular Content is totally OK if you do it correctly. It can bring you for Lots of Traffic! My world was ROCKED this week by the web’s #1 Blogger Ty Tribble who rolled out his highly anticipated MLM Blog Code. Contrary to all the articles, sites, blogs, squeeze pages etc. that you see online about how easy online marketing is, how much money it makes, how when you get involved after you’ve been beating you’re head against the wall in mlm you’ll  be amazed how much easier online is…the truth is: Online marketing does not work. “But Larry and Laura, how in the world can you say that?” Mike Dillard, led the way with his legendary and industry rocking Magnetic Sponsoring. Ann Seig was equally controversial and wrote her breakthrough book and materials, The Renegade Network Marketer and the guy who lead the way with 5000 blog posts Ty Tribble. Other Online Rockstars, like  Mark Hoverson who has earned so much  that people compete on Google using his name in their ads and pay thousands to learn from him.  Jonathon Budd the 7 Figure Networker, and New MLM Launch Formula and lets not forget the amazing…. Katie Freiling who has become one of the top bloggers ever…. All these people and others would laugh in my face at that statement!” Don’t worry I will redeem myself for all of you that want to go away and never come back. Keep reading, as I promise this will all make sense and provide a strong point to learn.

Let me explain. We have been involved in MLM for over 20 years, and have been successfully helping people become independent five and six figure earning home based business owners in worldwide organizations. We have met some of the finest leaders in the industry in that time and are proud to call them friends. It’s been interesting to watch the mass shift that has taken place in the last few years to the social media revolution, and attraction marketing, funded proposals etc. The one thing that stands out above all else… is the common thread that we hear on BOTH sides of the fence is “It doesn’t work”

OK..what doesn’t work? The tried and true methods of Network Marketing don’t work? They really DON’T WORK?? I have built, Larry has built, many very cool people I know have built large organizations with the tried and true techniques of mlm. I know one wonderful leader in our industry that is championing the cause, and uplifting our craft: Eric Worre with Network Marketing Pro.  These never fail methods are:

See the People

Tell the Story

Build For Events

Follow Up

They WORK…IF YOU WORK THEM. Always have…always will!! I challenge any person to take a superior product and opportunity that has these 3 attributes and NOT have some relatively good success with persistence, determination, and repetition.

Your Product Must Be:  DIFFERENT (Preferably FIRST TO MARKET!)

SUSTAINABLE (people have to have it long term)

GIVES YOU AN ADVANTAGE in the marketplace

So what about online marketing? Why do we say it does not work? It’s more like, people don’t work. People are looking for the easiest route to the million, with the least amount of work. A shortcut. The problem is, whether it be traditional mlm marketing or online mlm marketing, THERE SIMPLY ARE NO SHORTCUTS TO SUCCESS. It’s not really fair, but it’s just kind of the way it is. Booo. You can’t pass yourself off as an expert until you spend some time learning about your niche! That’s why we kind of crack up at all these “mentors” all over the place!! You can’t mentor people until you know what the heck you’re talking about with some credibility, and some experience!  You can’t pour water in cup with some instant powder and become a millionaire mentor! You have to pay some dues on the way. You’ve all heard the saying….It’s called Net-WORK marketing!

Ok, Ok….Of Course Online marketing works!! What do you think we have rocks in our head?! It is working to the tune of Billions!!  There are many fantastic tools and packages available to help you get where you want to go. Our advice is continue to work. Be persistent, consistent and know what you want. Take some time to work out a plan for what you want your online business to look like.  What message is it sending?

I think what we want to say is that BOTH WORK extremely well. The old mlm industry is pretty much not what it was. It has had to morph into the New MLM of the 21st Century, with The Social Media platforms, Web 2.0 etc. People carry around their Ipads and Iphones now, the way we used to rely on our precious rolodex, and business card files. Hotel meetings have been replaced by webinars for the most part, although many companies are still doing both as a winning strategy because there is no replacement for face to face personal contact DaveandDawnCook did an excellent video on this, go check it out!

Online marketing is like everything else. It is not get rich quick. It is not a shortcut for your mlm business. It is a new way to make your mlm or small business more profitable!! There is a significant difference! It does NOT mean you are going to work any less!! In fact you might work MORE. My hope is that you dig in and roll your sleeves up and work harder than you ever have in your life! The reason I say this is because if you do, you’ll be rewarded bigger than your wildest dreams.

The trap people fall into is thinking they are going to take their mlm business online, by putting up a pretty blog, trying a few strategies, etc. When the leads don’t start rolling in, they coming crying to us saying “Well, THAT didn’t WORK!!” The question you should be asking yourself is Did I WORK IT for a minimum of a YEAR, applying one strategy to the mastery level? You want to know a secret? The only way online marketing will NOT WORK is if you QUIT!! If you keep at it, and keep working consistently, you can’t help but succeed in your niche!

I found a really cool post over at Affliate Blog Online -“Why You Really Need to Start Guest Blogging Now”. Wanda and Paula are pointing out something that we don’t think of too often! ” At least I didn’t anyway….

“These days there is a  huge influx of bloggers who just love content, so it is a lot easier to get an article published. This is even more so if you have an internet marketing type blog, after all other internet marketers know the value of content and will even come to you for an article.” Wow! You can say that again! Aren’t we all looking for good content?

Wanda and Paula point out that it’s a little known technique that can bring you tons of new traffic, and boost your seo.

“From that one blog post we received over 1200 unique visitors, had around 150 sign-ups for our email list, some nice backlinks, around 50 new RSS subscribers and 3 sales of affiliate products, one of those for a membership site with ongoing commissions”.

They do warn that you have to keep working at it like every thing .

“Yes of course the traffic is only temporary from these types of posts but as you can see from our experience it brought in other long term benefits, like the 150 people signing up to our newsletter for instance. ”

These gals do have some important cautions and good tips, so make sure you head on over to Affliate Blog Online – to read “Why You Really Need to Start Guest Blogging Now”.

This is a posting technique I learned from Ty Tribble The King Of MLM  Bloggers, in MLM Blog Secrets. Please feel free to comment if it was helpful to you.
